Season One
(Guest stars who later played roles in Starsky & Hutch are bolded and linked to the Starsky & Hutch episode.)
Here are a few reactions I had after watching each episode. I hope to write more thoughtful reviews in the future.
A car similar to Pete's infamous 1950 Mercury Woody:
The Teeth Of The Barracuda After a fellow police officer is murdered, the trio gets involved to find his killers. During the investigation it is discovered the daughter of a local political candidate may be involved.
Directed by: Lee Katzin
Guest stars: Fred Beir, Brooke Bundy, Lonny Chapman, Noam Pitlik, Addison Powell, Gary Vinson, Simon Scott, Robert DoQui, Larry Thor
Rated: four stars out of five
"There's no way to divide three and come out even" ~ Linc
My Take: Julie seemed to be jealous of Tina...did they want Pete and Julie to become a couple at the beginning? Pete was very angry in this one. So was Captain Greer. They both softened quite a bit after the pilot.
Highlights: They were all dressed at one time like the opening of the show. Lots of close-ups of the actors, which make beautiful screen caps. Harrison Ford. Lots of beach time. The hip music during the chase scene. Didn't really match, but was really groovy.
Lowlights: The truck test. So extreme to me. The captain could have killed all three. Pete got in so much trouble for breaking and entering as a cop, yet in future episodes they do it all the time...with permission and search warrants.
Knock-outs and Injuries: Julie is attacked.
Locations: Paradise Cove Pier and beach
Tina's house - 28124 Pacific Coast Hwy., Malibu
Spot where Beau spots the squad - 650 N. La Cienega Blvd., L.A. (below)
Pink Panther Pit - Pacific Ocean Park, Santa Monica

Bad Man On Campus The trio goes undercover at a local high school to break up a car theft ring run by students.
Directed by: Earl Bellamy
Guest stars: Norman Alden, J. Pat O'Malley, Clive Clerk, Booker Bradshaw, Judy Pace
Rated: three out of five stars
Pete: Where's Julie?
Gandy: I don't know!
Pet: She's not in her apartment! And there's a smell of chloroform there!
Gandy: Please, they'll kill me!
Pete: What do you think WE'RE going to do?!
My Take: There's a great Pop-up Video about the history of the amusement park. I've posted it on this page.
Highlights: Julie's leather skirt.
Lowlights: Those bumbling bad guys running badly in those plumber overalls. Dated gymnastics. (Wonder if I knew the stunt double?)
Knock-outs and Injuries:
My What A Pretty Bus The squad goes undercover in a prison to investigate one case, but accidentally stumble onto another one involving counterfeiters.
Directed by: Gene Nelson
Guest stars: Henry Jones, Byron Morrow, Paul Sorensen, Troy Melton, Pepper Martin, Val Avery
Rated: five out of five stars
'"Maharishi says, "Never drink champagne out of a paper cup."' ~Linc
My Take: What an awesome episode. The more I watch it, the more I appreciate it. So pretty and colorful. The squad was just glowing with chemistry. Loved Henry Jones in his professorial-like role. We learned how Pete's maid used to lock him in a closet when he was little, when he didn't know what he did wrong. We learned when Julie was young, she longed for a present father and siblings. An episode with a lot of undercover movement by all, yet moments of reflection by each.
Highlights: An interestingly planned caper. Linc slams the door when he's just been told there's a soufflé in the oven…Pete's reaction is funny. Pete hiding in the trunk and making it back undetected. Teamwork. The ocean…I love the ocean. I can almost smell the sea air in the bus switch out. The moment they became family as remembered in "A Time For Remembering"… They just clicked completely in this episode.
Lowlights: Not sure how Linc could see Pete coming from the opposite direction sitting behind a cop on a motorcycle. But it sure made for a trippy chase to the dock.
Knock-outs and Injuries: Pete was punched out and Linc and Julie were drugged.
When Smitty Comes Marching Home Linc tries to help an old friend, a returning Vietnam War soldier, after he is sought by police on a homicide charge.
Directed by: George McCowan
Guest stars: Louis Gossett Jr., Valerie Allen, Bill Walker, Art Lewis, Natividad Vacio, George Ostos, Jack Swanson, Edward Faulkner
Rated: three stars out of five
"Baby. (clap) BABY!" ~ Captain Greer
My Take: So they're family (after "Pretty Bus") but now there are trust issues. Linc holds out and Pete (and Julie) feel angry and betrayed. Yet every episode after, they always let each other hold out for a friend or person of doubt. It's their code. In this episode, though, even the captain feels betrayed and not trusted. It's uncomfortable at first, but then everyone hits their stride once the case progresses. In this episode, Pete is used as a Spanish translator. One wonders how he learned conversational Spanish as a rich Beverly Hills kid. I think it's awesome. The drive-in Julie works at is very much like the A&W drive-in in my hometown (which was the original A&W drive-in!)
Highlights: The puppy stuff. Louis Gossett Jr. (first of three episodes)
Lowlights: That weird lioness picture in the bar...I guess it's close to a zoo, so I get it now.
Knock-outs and Injuries: Linc gets socked in the gut so hard that he can only walk on the edge of his feet.
Locations: Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens, Griffith Park - 5333 Zoo Dr., Los Angeles, CA
You Can't Tell The Players Without a Programmer Pete saves a former school friend from drowning and discovers she's being blackmailed.
Directed by: Earl Bellamy
Guest stars: Mark Goddard, Linda Marsh, Julie Adams, Byron Foulger, Harry Basch, Sarah Lord, Art Metrano
Rated: four out of five stars
Linc: He's got skin trouble.
Julie: Yeah, and...she's under it.
My Take: Art Metrano played Amboy in the Starsky & Hutch episode, "Bust Amboy." He played a very colorful character. I really enjoyed this one. Snappy dialogue, a tough captain playing soft throughout, Pete in rich people clothes, Linc in pretty blue and orange colors, and Julie going from undercover maid, to undercover rich girl. Lots and lots of close-ups of the actors.
Highlights: The beginning when Pete tells the captain that they don't like police-- the reactions. They get enough money together to return a pawned watch. Linc running up the tab. Yellow robes, the beach, and the ending...the blackmailer didn't have a chance.
Lowlights: Um...the patterning on Louise's Corvette.
Knock-outs and Injuries: None
Locations: 265 Hudson Ave. Los Angeles. (This house is used many times in Mod Squad and Starsky & Hutch. )
Paradise Cove - 28128 Pacific Coast highway, Malibu, California
A Time To Love - A Time To Cry A photographer wakes up in his studio and discovers his model is dead. The squad works to clear him of her murder.
Directed by: Michael Caffey
Guest stars: Robert Lansing, Harry Townes, Rex Holman, Jerry Ayres, Peter Bruni, Kirsten Holly
Rated: three and a half stars out of five
Julie: You're all heart.
Linc: No. Like the man said, just a little bit of soul.
My Take: Early on, the squad felt guilty playing both sides of the coin. Trying to help people, but having to turn them in.
Highlights: The camera never lied (until Photoshop came into play). The captain introduces the squad as special people. Linc's impressive swan dive. Any footage by the beach. Julie is gorgeous in this episode.
Lowlights: They traded their woody for a station wagon while it was in the shop?
Knock-outs and injuries: None to the squad.
Locations: Paradise Cove Pier
Find Tara Chapman! A young woman arrives in L.A. not knowing she has meningitis. The squad desperately tries to find her, but she thinks they're really looking to kill her, as she witnessed a mob hit back east.
Directed by: Gene Nelson
Guest stars: Yvonne Craig, Della Reese, John Van Dreelen, Mills Watson, Peter Leeds, Jana Taylor, Sid Melton, Phillip Terry, Gene Nelson
Rated: three out of five stars
"We're not killers, man. But spinal meningitis is." ~Pete
My Take: The director has a part! Gene Nelson is in this one, as well as directs. Good view of the San Pedro Bridge from the water.
Highlights: Linc's "we're the good guys" line. Such emotion. Captain's car....Pete mistaken for an actor. Pete's shock about original Tara. Della Reese's singing.
Lowlights: A bit difficult watching them try to escape in that very slow moving boat. I remember a meningitis scare when I was in elementary school. It was a genuine fear.
Knock-outs and Injuries: The captain's car was a casualty.
The Price of Terror Someone is out to kill Captain Greer.
Directed by: Earl Bellamy
Guest stars: James Best, Gail Kobe, Richard Bakalyan, Simon Scott, Herb Vigran, Harry Basch, Joel Fluellen, William Phipps
Rated: three out of five stars
"Never put a lump in the captain's throat." ~ Captain Greer
My Take: Lots of scenes at the County Art Museum, which is a nice reference of Tige's love of art. Linc and Julie cracked a lot of this case.
Highlights: The bowling scene. How protective the squad was of their captain. Pete's apology to Julie when he was uptight and she was acting quite silly.
Lowlights: Kind of a slow-paced episode, with a lot of captain angst.
Knock-outs and Injuries: The captain was hit by a car, and was nearly blown up.
Locations: Los Angeles County Museum of Art - 5905 Wilshire Blvd., Hancock Park, Los Angeles, CA
A Quiet Weekend In The Country A police informant dies before he can tell Captain Greer about a drug smuggling operation. Greer sends his team to investigate a small community not very open to outsiders.
Directed by: Jack Arnold
Guest stars: James Gregory, Ahna Capri, Dub Taylor, Irene Hervey, Bruce Glover, Clyde Ventura, Hal Baylor, Jue Higgins
Rated: four stars out of five
"It was good enough for Clark Gable." ~ Julie
My Take: This one was a fun crime solver. Pete and Julie pose as a newlywed couple which was also fun.
Highlights: The blanket scene. I just liked this entire episode.
Lowlights: I can understand why the older husband was jealous. His wife made it easy to assume things. Why couldn't she talk to her husband?
Knock-outs and Injuries: Pete gets knocked out, kind of.
Locations: Camp Williams Resort, 24210 E. Fork Rd., Azusa, CA
Love Pete's cousin, a young woman desperate for attention, kidnaps a child.
Directed by: Lee H. Katzin
Guest stars: Nina Foch, Dee Pollack, Arthur Franz, Robert Yuro, Diana Ewing, Isabel Sanford, Tom McDonough, Norman Stevans, Louise Lane
Rated: three and a half stars
"Old Mr. Grossman would fill us full of pastrami sandwiches and pickled philosophy." ~ Pete
My Take: Pete and Linc are taught that Beverly Hills has its own problems (though I think Pete already was aware of that). Tige Andrews wrote this one. Julie does most of the crime solving in this episode, having solutions to dead ends and observantly putting clues together. You go, girl.
Highlights: Pete angst. Nina Foch's dress...I love the colors and dull sparkle.
Lowlights: Pete's house didn't look all that fancy inside. On the outside, yes.
Knock-outs and Injuries: None
Locations: Laurel Canyon Country Store, 2108 Laurel Canyon Blvd., Los Angeles, CA Linc and Julie chase Love van - Vermont Av. and Cockerham
Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Starlet When several young and blonde actresses die in a series of grisly murders, Julie goes undercover, hoping she might catch the killer.
Directed by: George McCowen
Guest stars: William Smithers, Richard Evans, Alan Oppenheimer, Joan Van Ark, Virginia Greg, Ben Wright, Norman Grabowski
Rated: four out of five stars
"I thought it was obvious. I'm a giant turtle." ~ Pete
My Take: Julie looked absolutely stunning in this episode. Joan Van Ark looked so young. Her voice sounded the same. The end is visually scary as there is a night chase. It's what I always remember when watching this episode as a youngster --Julie rolling down the hill and spraining her ankle. Julie doesn't like being an uncover cop in this one. She feels like a traitor.
Highlights: Pete as a taxi driver and a construction worker. Linc in blues and burgundy. Julie's hair.
Lowlights: The obnoxious talkshow host....but he was supposed to be. And they show a bit too much of Pete's stunt double doing the work.
Knock-outs and Injuries: Julie is nearly strangled to death.
The Guru After a local hippie newspaper is bombed, Pete, Linc and Julie get hired on to work there undercover to find out the scoop. The become embroiled in the personal lives of the editor and his employee girlfriend and chaos ensues. The newspaper office is later trashed, thus thrusting them into the spotlight once again. Things get heated and a murder and attempted suicide occur. They must use their detective skills for justice to be served.
Directed by: Richard Rush
Guest stars: Dabney Coleman, Jane Elliot, Max Julien, Adam Roarke
Rated: four stars out of five
"I understand that the people you travel with are a lot more important than where you go." ~Pete
My Take: I really liked this one. The squad immediately sides with the kids, then have to change sides. But they do their detective work to find the murderer. They work together while carefully handling feelings. Julie blows it and she feels bad. Some beautiful shots in this episode. Pete wears sandals. Can't eat two tacos. I have a bigger appetite than Pete. Fun seeing Barry Willams as a competitive paperboy. Oh, and Daphne's scream became the canned scream sound effect in many Starsky & Hutch episodes.
Highlights: The suicide letter by Daphne:
"I remember my grandmother used to sing a hymn, The Old Rugged Cross. I remembered every word once. Now all I can sing is on a hill far away stood an old Chevrolet..." I don't know the real words anymore. And the pain is strong for not knowing. I'm tired and I want to go home. Show me the war. Is that the way the song goes? From all the transitions of prayers to pills to booze to acid, to junk and back again, I still can't remember the words. Now I lay me down to get my keep, I pray the landlord lets me sleep. Is that the way the prayer goes? I don't remember anymore."
Lowlights:
Knock-outs and injuries: To squad...none.
Locations: The building in front of the newspaper office: 1019 North Fairfax Ave., West Hollywood, CA:
The Sunday Drivers In Las Vegas, as they watch from the stands, a stock car racer friend of Linc's is killed when his car flips over and explodes. Though at first reticent, Greer reconsiders and lets the three stay and investigate, as they suspect the crash was not an accident. Linc poses as a racer and Pete as a mechanic. When they check the car they find their hunch was correct.
Directed by: Gene Nelson
Guest stars: Quentin Dean, Paul Carr, Woodrow Parfrey, Chick Chandler, LewisCharles, Renata Vanni, Carolos Romero
Rated: three out of five stars
Captain: Hanging up, is that the way you win arguments?
Linc: That's the way I avoid them.
My Take: Knowing that Linc's friend was burning to death was quite gruesome. Pete was really worried about Linc... nice to see the love and concern. I almost saw little hearts and birdies flying around Pete's head when woman enters stage right.
Highlights: Racing suits. Bad Las Vegas furniture. The captain feeling bad for blowing their cover.
Lowlights: The racism was really ugly and unfortunately true to form.
Knock-outs and Injuries: None...
Locations: Stardust Hotel & Casino (exterior) 3000 Las Vegas Blvd South, Las Vegas, Nevada, (demolished)
Hello Mother, My Name Is Julie Julie's estranged mother suddenly shows up and tells her she is getting married. Unfortunately Pete and Linc know something about her future step-father.
Directed by: Jack Arnold
Guest stars: Nan Martin, William Windom, Joseph Mell, Michael Harris, Phil Posner, Leonard Stone
Rated: three and a half stars
"She was dying inside, man....by inches." ~Pete
My Take: I forgot how much I liked this one. Lots of Julie angst and the guys are afraid to be honest and end up betraying her. Interesting to learn that not only was her mother a prostitute, but her mother turned a blind eye toward Julie's predators.
Highlights: The guys' surprised reaction when Julie's stepfather-to-be walked in. Pete in red. Flashbacks. The ending is heart-wrenching.
Lowlights: Pete and Linc wore white pants during a night caper. The guys were too easily knocked out by an older man.
Knock-outs and Injuries: Pete and Linc were both knocked unconscious.
Flight Five Doesn't Answer A former syndicate boss is being transported by plane to meet with the governor with the squad undercover as the flight crew.
Directed by: George McCowan
Guest stars: Will Kuluva, Whit Bissell, Lawrence P. Casey, Marvin Kaplan, Russ Conway, Simon Scott, Charlie Briggs, Andy Ramano, Murray MacLeod, Roy Glenn, Dennis Cross
Rated: four out of five stars
Pete: No, after today, man, I really believe that the best things in life are free.
Linc: Just being alive.
Pete: Just being alive.
My Take: This episode was too dangerous for Julie, so she stayed home. Plane crash, gun battles...just because the squad doesn't carry guns, doesn't mean the captain doesn't engage in shoot-outs.
Highlights: Linc's surgical skills. Marvin's comic relief (he becomes a re-occuring character in a season two episode). Linc's enthusiasm in the cockpit.
Lowlights: I remember when they used to allow smoking on planes.
Knock-outs and Injuries: Pete, Linc, and the captain are all pretty beat up from the crash. Linc is knocked out for about ten minutes. But Captain Greer is shot on top of everything else.
Locations: Bronson Canyon, 2800 Canyon Dr., Los Angeles
Shell Game Pete and Linc successfully infiltrate a gang of thieves only to discover they are protected by crooked cops and that Julie has become an unwitting hostage.
Directed by: Gene Nelson
Guest stars: Michael Margotta, Jeff Pomerantz, William Wintersole, John Carter, Chris Graham, Ken Sylk, Peggy Stewart, John Bryant, Troy Melton, Buck Young, Gregory Enton
Rated: three out of five stars
"You're something else, Julie. Something else." ~ Linc
My Take: The talk Captain Greer gives at the end is very relevant to today...about a cop being a person first. And when one goes bad, they all get a bad name. Interesting, and very relevant discussion of any public service occupation. But there is institutionalized corruption.
Highlights: When Pete wipes out the bad guy in pool and Linc smirks. Pete winning at everything. The test. Pete gets protective of Julie. I like the way they work in tandem when Jerry is asked if he recognizes his friends.
Lowlights: Pete and Linc don't have much to do.
Knock-outs and Injuries: None.
Fear Is The Bucking Horse Pete and Linc go undercover in a rodeo after a movie stuntman is nearly killed by an unknown shooter.
Directed by: George McCowen
Guest stars: Ed Begley, Monte Markham, Ross Elliott, Nina Shipman, Richard Karlan
Rated: three out of five stars
Captain Greer: Anyone can put on boots and jeans and he's a cowhand.
Pete: (sizes up the captain from head to toe) Almost anybody.
My Take: Fun little who-done-it within the western studio lot. Can't wait to screencap this one.
Highlights: Cowboy gear...Pete and Linc look good. Julie looks shiny. Captain looks out of place.
Lowlights: Horses trotting in fast motion was unnecessary. Didn't like to see calves roped.
Knock-outs and Injuries: Pete was knocked out.
A Hint of Darkness, A Hint Of Light A woman sunning on the beach is nearly killed when someone swims ashore. The would be killer is determined to get her, not realizing she is blind.
Directed by: Earl Bellamy
Guest stars: Gloria Foster, John Milford, Virginia Gregg, Beverlee McKinsey, Lou Krugman, Hank Patterson
Rated: three and a half stars out of five
"And how I wish the tale was mine to tell. To touch. To see. To know a hint of darkness, a hint of lightness before it's time to go." ~ Jenny
My Take: Really nice framing of the squad...also some really nice shots for screenshots. I loved the beach house and everything about the beach. Nice love story between Linc who is fascinated with the innocence of a woman who has never experienced ugliness. It's so confusing to him.
Highlights: The ending jazzy music. The beach. The plot. The acting by Gloria Foster. Pete knows how to turn on the undercover charm. Pete was relentless when catching the bad guy. Pete and the captain are falling all over each other when Pete won't stop beating up the bad guy.
Lowlights: Considering all the policemen they had outside, you'd think the squad would stay closer to her inside. Police are supposed to know ALL entrances.
Knock-outs and injuries: None to squad.
Locations: Jenny's house: 24246 Malibu Rd., Malibu
Seaside Market: Paradise Cove 28128 PCH, Malibu
Jenny's attack: Westward Beach
Phil's Boat Rentals: Paradise Cove Pier, Paradise Cove 28128 PCH, Malibu
The Uptight Town Captain Greer disappears while on a fishing trip in a remote town. Pete, Linc and Julie go looking for him and discover the townspeople and sheriff are aloof and want them gone. What secret is everyone hiding and will they be able to save the captain's life in time?
Directed by: Earl Bellamy
Guest stars: Jason Evers, Cliff Osmond, Donna Baccala, Louis Gossett Jr., Alex Montoya, Barry Brown, Simon Scott
Rated: four out of five stars
"How do you tell a chief....he's sooo wrong." ~Linc
My Take: Lake Hughes, CA...it's near Castaic Lake, and that's about where I cut off when I travel to Ojai-- though I go West. It's an hour and a half away from Ojai. I'm finding I really like when all three are together. In many episodes, they're separate. But in this episode they are together and working together most of the time, though Julie sometimes has to wait in the car, for it's far too dangerous for her....heh.
Highlights: I adore when the squad reveals themselves. They know they're in the power seat. Barry Brown.
Lowlights: Just sad how the townspeople stuck together. I felt the same way the chief and squad felt about it.
Knock-outs and Injuries: Linc is knocked out, beat up and thrown out of a truck. The captain is pretty beat up, too...driven into the lake.
Locations: The Rock Inn, 17539 Elizabeth Lake Rd., Lake Hughes, CA
Papa's Country Store - 17518 Elizabeth Lake Rd, Lake Hughes, CA
Lakeside Cuts (sheriff's office) 17527 Elizabeth Lake Rd.
(Closing) 17536 Elizabeth Lake Rd.

Directed by: Gene Nelson
Guest stars: J.D. Cannon, Sean Garrison, John Harmon, Glenn R. Wilder, Dorothy Konrad, Kevin O'Neal
Rated: four out of five stars
Pete: That's a beautiful sight.
Julie: Even more beautiful if all those guns were just dumped into the sea.
My Take: I really enjoyed this episode. Pete has quite the wardrobe and looks delicious in this episode. The squad dressed quite warmly in this episode. Pete even wore a warm plaid jacket and black boots at one time. I can't even count the wardrobe changes. And the music! Oh, my! (See highlights.) Julie did her part in cracking the case, but this was the male duo's episode.
Highlights: Loved how they choreographed the soundtrack to the sneaking around scene. There was one style of music for my dynamic duo and military music for the guards. It was great cat and mouse music. The music is such an added feature to this show. Pete looked stunning in every shot.
Lowlights: Julie's furry hat?!
Knock-outs and Injuries: None
Locations: Van Marney's mansion - Beverly House - 1011 N. Beverly Drive, Beverly Hills, CA.
Truck heist - Mulholland Drive, Hollywood Hills, L.A.
Pete ditches truck - Mulholland Dr. & Nicada Dr., Sherman Oaks, L.A.
A Run For The Money Pete's girlfriend gets him tangled up in a mess involving her convict father and stolen money.
Directed by: Harvey Hart
Guest stars: Leslie Ann Warren, Tom Bosley, Ed McNamara, Robert F. Hoy, Sam Edwards, Robert Broyles, Lee Duncan, Chuck Roberson
Rated: four out of five stars
"Blood is thicker than water." ~Pete
My Take: This episode is beautiful on DVD. There's a lot of posing and it was fun finding screen grabs. But this episode was also frustrating. I don't like people being framed so tight that the Captain can't do much. I know that was the episode tension, but I was as frustrated as Pete. But I wasn't as in love with Pete's girlfriend. She threw Pete under the bus and I would not have been nearly as forgiving. Interesting that he recognizes that in this case blood is thicker than water, but in his own life, it is quite the opposite. I think the only reason the girlfriend testified in Pete's favor was because her father was dead. Now if I can only convince Pete of that...
Highlights: Pretty, just pretty. Punch to the gut that she believed her father over Pete and told him so. Tom Bosley played a manipulative bad guy.
Lowlights: The night drive by Leslie Ann and Tom. It looked very fake…Pete fell fast and hard…he didn't know her very long. So if one spends eleven years in the clink for stealing money, you've earned the money you stole? Father and daughter were a bit twisted in their thinking.
Knock-outs and Injuries: None…but this entire episode was a punch to the stomach.
Child Of Sorrow, Child of Light After a young woman dies in a car bombing, Julie pretends to be an unmarried pregnant woman in order to infiltrate an illegal adoption agency.
Directed by: Gene Nelson
Guest stars: Ida Lupino, Daniel J. Travanti, Heidi Vaughn, Foster Brooks, Claudia Bryar, Fredrica Meyers, Jim Boles, Alan Baxter Susan Brown, Fred Holliday, Virginia
Rated: four stars out of five stars
"I talk with my mouth. Listen with my ears. I cry with my eyes. But nobody hears." ~Linc
My Take: A lot happens in this episode. Two girls die, and Pete and Julie are taken by surprise and are horrified as to what they are made a part of. Linc has multiple undercover roles that make things tricky for him. Nice way they figured out the crime and then fell into additional undercover roles.
Highlights: Julie and Captain Greer physically catch criminals! Pete gets caught talking to violets. La Cinema!
Lowlights: The funky screen of MacArthur Park during the end tag. They were filmed walking away from the real area...maybe they had to re-do because the ducks were quacking too loudly.
Knock-outs and Injuries: Pete gets chloroformed and tied up.
Locations: Redwood Lodge Motel - 906 S. Alvarado St., L.A.
MacArthur Park (near S. Park View ST & Wilshire Blvd.
Bliss House - Frederick Mitchell Mooers House - 818 S. Bonnie Brae St., LA
Keep The Faith, Baby A black priest, at odds with his diocese, becomes the target of a hood after he is suspended by the church. The hood believes the priest will reveal what he was told during his confession when he thought he was about to die.
Directed by: Gene Nelson
Guest stars: Sammy Davis Jr., Robert Duvall, William Schallert, Ron Hayes, Stephen Perry, Darryl Glenn, Dick Dial
Rated: three stars out of five
Captain Greer: Suppose I were to assign you to three cops that didn't look like cops. I mean three people who know and respect you. What would you say to that, Father?
Father Banks: I would then say, Captain, which three saints did you have in mind?
My Take: Sammy Davis carried the show...in fact this was the only episode that closed with him replacing one of the three. Sacrilegious! Linc was awestruck by Sammy's character, so much so that his police skills suffered. He turned his back on a criminal for a very long time.
Highlights: Fun to think that the squad was going out to the movie together. Sammy Davis is a large personality in a small body.
Lowlights: Not so much a low light, but the captain thinking Julie was getting off task, when she was actually solving the case. And of course, Linc turning his back on a criminal he had just knocked out. All he had to do was turn around!
Knock-outs and Injuries: Linc was knocked out and shot.
Locations: St. Brendan's Catholic Church - 310 S. Van Ness Avenue, Hancock Park, L.A.
Captain Greer, Call Surgery Someone is stealing narcotics from area hospitals and Greer has the team go undercover in what he thinks will be the next target.
Directed by: Earl Bellamy
Guest stars: Edward Andrews, Kim Hamilton, David Opatoshu, Sheilah Wells, Solomon Sturges, Willis Bouchey, Frank Schuller, Army Archerd, Monica Keating, Jonathan Hole
Rated: three out of five stars
"You've got a lot on your mind. Like life. Death. Birth. Infinity." ~ Linc to Nurse Sutton
My Take: This one was a weird one...with the Julie's patient's son relationship, or lack there of...the bad guy working commercials at a funeral home. Just odd.
Highlights: Pete thinking Linc was killed. Julie worried that Linc was going to blow his career as a cop and Pete's response, letting him go. It's cool the way they give each other room, no matter what. They love each other enough to do that. It's one of those nuances about the show that is difficult to explain.
Lowlights: Um...Holly's crocheted green top.
Knockouts and Injuries: Linc gets knocked out and nearly drugged to death.
Peace Now - Arly Blau A draft dodger (and son of an army general) becomes the center of the media's attention and an assassin's target. Julie is an old friend from school and offers to help him.
Directed by: Gene Nelson
Guest stars: Christopher Connelly, Ross Elliott, Noah Keen, Kevin Hagen, Hal Lynch, Kyle Johnson
Rated: four out of five stars
"I'm just worried about my partner. My friend. His cover's kind of tricky. And he has been pushing his luck." ~ Linc
My Take: This episode tackles a very difficult subject...With Linc, the question is when does one have to fight? With Arly, it's why does anyone need to? I do have to hand it to Arly. He was consistent. He didn't want to have anyone fight his fight for him, even though it got deadly. He would have died for his beliefs. So he was brave in his pacifism. I know Arly didn't want cops as cellmates, but I sure felt better when they were protecting him. I like Pete in dark pin stripes.
Highlights: Linc was very concerned about Pete. They played good guy bad guy and placed Pete in a difficult position. I thought Arly to be an interesting character, collecting glass, keeping his door unlocked... Father's scene with Arly was emotional. Linc and Arly's discussion over violence in the cell. Linc's infamous, "You're gonna kill him!"
Lowlights: The news reporter. The prisoners didn't play volleyball very well, and they didn't look tough doing it. Julie would fall in love with a tree if it went to school with her. Captain Greer weirdly didn't seem to be concerned that Pete was beat up, because his cover wasn't broken.
Knock-outs and Injuries: Pete was beaten up big time...broken leg and facial injuries.
A Seat By The Window After someone is killed at a bus station, the killer is believed to have escaped in one of three outgoing buses. Link, Pete, and Julie each board one of the buses to track the possible killer.
Directed by: Michael Caffey
Guest stars: Bo Hopkins, Julie Gregg, John Beck, Tom Heaton, Tiffany Bolling, Ellen Moss, Frank Farmer, Wayne McLaren, Bill Quinn, Nora Marlowe, David Thorpe
Rated: three stars out of five
"Well, while I try to find out who the dead man is and piece it together from this end, you three are going to join that holiday throng... and go for a bus ride." (cue theme song) ~Captain Greer
My Take: I liked the groovy band singing at the music festival. The lead singer could move. Also like the singer in Julie's bus. Nice plot with the three buses, but I like seeing the squad together.
Highlights: Bo Hopkins and his goofy moving eyebrows. Pete's pinstriped pants. A lot of pretty Pete in this one.
Lowlights: Boy, they all were able to travel quite fast, and the helicopter must have been busy. The captain was able to meet up with Linc soon after his mugging, even though he was an hour or two south of Los Angeles. Pete and Linc quickly met up where Julie was when she had been headed in a different direction.
Knock-out and Injuries: Linc gets mugged. Concussion.
